Table tennis scoring, rules and table size.

Scoring The first player to get to 11 points in a game is the winner (usually the best of 5 or 7 games). Players must win each game by two clear points. Each player must serve for two consecutive points and then it's the other player's turn to serve.

Rules

To Serve: The server can serve either backhand or forehand. The ball has to be thrown from an open hand to avoid any spin and must be higher than the net (the same height of the net is OK too), before hitting the ball with your bat. A 'let' (serve doesn't count) is played when the ball hits the net before landing on your opponents side.

During play: You mustn't touch the table with your 'free' hand or you'll lose the point. You can hit the ball around the side of the net. The ball must bounce on your side of the table before playing your shot. Swapping ends Swap ends at the start of a new game. You must swap ends when a player reaches 5 points during the 'final' game.

Table size: A competition table tennis table is 9ft x 5ft and is of a uniform dark colour, matt finish. The net height is 6" and the playing area is 24ft x 12ft approx.
